How To Become A Fashion Designer Without School

Many people have gone to college then get a degree with something that they are not really passionate about. They have different reasons behind it but in the end, there will be a time that they will choose to follow their passion. It will never be too late because there are ways. They can go to school again and have a new degree. But there are things that can be done even without schooling. One of these is being a fashion designer. 

If you have the passion to design and create clothes and accessories, then fashion designer is the job for you. You will also not need to spend time to get a degree, but you will still need to exert effort for it.

1. Go to Workshops

Even if you will not go to a school, you will still need to learn something new and about the industry itself. You can have some research but going to a workshop is the easiest and fastest way to do it. With this, they might also teach you some new skills that will be handy with your future work. Not only that, some of them give certificates that will be useful if you are looking for employers to start with.

2. Sharpen Your Skills

If you want to make a career of something, you should have enhanced your skills. With practice, things will be a lot easier. One of the things you can do is do some sketches. It does not have to be grand. You can imagine something that will be shown at a fashion show, but that does not mean you will have to stress about it. Once you have an idea, sketch it out. You can also practice with your friends. You can use them as your model or muse to make something. This way, you may have an opportunity as a stylist. Not only that, it will enhance your measuring skills. Another way is to learn about different materials used such as fabrics, so you will have more ideas and your vision will be more enhanced. The other skill that you will need to enhance is sewing, so make sure to have that practiced as well.

3. Try to Have an Internship

A great way to learn more about the industry and also the trends is to have an internship with brands. You do not need to be in school or have a degree for this, but you will need to show your skills. Look for something that will match your style and you know you will really like. Have it even if you will be unpaid, just think that the experience is better. Also, if you are really passionate, that will be not a problem for you. You will also be able to connect with others with this. Who knows, the brand may hire you, but you will also easily apply to your other preferred companies or brands.

4. Keep a Portfolio

During an internship or any other experience, you would have a portfolio, and it is important for you to keep them. That way, if you need to show off your skills and even your experiences, you will have them in one place.
