Weekly Skin Treat ~ Beauty~Licious Body Scrub

When it comes to caring for your skin (in and out) a little of the wrong thing can go quite a long way. Your skin is a living, breathing organ – the largest to be exact. And what busy skin we have! It’s not just for looking good you know. It carries the load of maintaining your body temperature, storing vitamin D that later allows your body to rid toxins through sweat, absorbs oxygen, and creates barriers against invading microbes. Whew! That’s a lot.

It is as important to take care of your skin on the outside just as much as it is on the inside. For instance you can have all of the magic potions in the world but if you don’t properly hydrate {read: WATER} you are only showcasing a fraction of your skins true potential. For some this could be enough for now, eventually the neglect will start to take its toll leaving dry, dull, lifeless (even prematurely wrinkled!) skin. Water makes up 30 percent of the epidermis. When you are dehydrated your body ‘holds back’ water leaving this outer layer dry and brittle.

The second key to fresh, glowing skin is exfoliation. You can buy a scrub or make one at home but those dead skin cells aren’t going to remove themselves. However, be warned  not everything is for everyone and most body scrubs are too rough for the delicate skin on your face. When trying a face scrub start with a gentle ingredient like old-fashioned oatmeal (uncooked), steer clear of your eyes and have fun!

Beauty~Licious Hydrating Body Scrub

1 tbsp unrefined coconut oil
*will melt once it reaches room temp
3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
4 tbsp of pure light brown sugar
1/4 tsp of raw honey
*choose your favorite flavor

Mix all of the ingredients well in a container with a lid. Use in the shower after cleansing. Blot skin dry after.Enjoy super smooth and hydrated skin.

Tip: Using excessively hot water contributes greatly to dry skin. You should exfoliate at least twice a week & avoid using harsh soaps or body washes.
