Beauty Tip of the Week: Deep Cleanse with Oil

Skin Care

No matter how many times I try to switch up my facial cleansing routine my skin proves to me time + again that I absolutely cannot go without oil cleansing.

Myth: Soap/sudsy cleansers clean the skin.

Fact: Even the mildest soap can offset your natural balance of sebum causing your skin to produce more than necessary thus clogging pores + creating breakouts.

Another fact: Oil breaks down oil, makeup + dirt.

Yes it sounds crazy + may go against everything you’ve been taught since the beginning of your time but then again it’s quite difficult to create a monopoly on things like castor oil + almond oil.

I really could get down to the nitty-gritty with this but by the last line I could end up with an e-book instead of a blog post! So trust me when I say it’s good for you! For you, your skin + the environment!  Now that I’ve worn out this ! let’s get down to the OCM.

Be warned before you shop, do not buy refined oils they are not the same thing.

What You Need: Castor Oil is super thick + needs a carrier oil to get it “in” to the skin.

Base – Castor Oil

Carrier – {Choose One} Sunflower Seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil

Skin Personalities:

Oily skin – Use 3 parts castor oil to 3 parts carrier oil.

Balanced Skin – Use 2 parts castor oil to 3 parts carrier oil.

Dry Skin – Use 1 part castor oil to 3 parts carrier oil.

** Castor Oil can be drying when used in the OCM so if you have dry skin don’t overdo it. All of the above carrier oils give moisture + balance to the skin.

Tip: Make small amounts until you are certain which oil combinations work best for your skin.

Massage the oil into your skin. Use a warm wash cloth wipe away oil. If you find your face feeling a little dry after use a little of your oil mixture + massage in with your finger tips. Do not wipe off.

Tip: If I’m removing makeup I cleanse twice.

I keep mine stored in this pump bottle but however you choose to store your own keep it out of direct light + heat. It will ruin your product.

Updated bits: I knew I missed something when I typed this up. And it is so important too. Be sure to exfoliate your skin often. Oil cleansing is still as good as I said it was but if you don’t get rid of the excess dead skin lying around on your face you will have blocked + dirty pores thus leading to breakouts. So get a little ground oatmeal, not the instant kind, and get in there. I promise your skin will glow!

If you feel like I’ve missed/left out anything just let me know. I’m getting over a sinus cold so I’m not at 100% yet. Let me know if you try this + how you liked it.
